lol your not going to build anything for that price range unless you keep an eye on tiger direct barebone deals. there were a few that were quad core builds for $300 but they dont last long

but for the best amd processor i say phenom x4 955 deneb black will perform nicely but bulldozer is almost out so buying something right now would be retarded

Ddreder, hes talking $300 for the processor ALONE nothing else

and $300 for a processor is high so you could get damn near anything

i don't suggest lol, just find one in your range and read all that you can about it and compare to similar ones whether that is ati or intel.

look at comparisons with i5's and sandybridges
vs ati's new line like bulldozer ect.

look at benchmarks that test the cpu and determine how much power you need from your processor-- http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2
look at the benchmarks for games you play and see how it compares to another model or competitor.

Good luck, it will take time but in the end it will have paid off

how much growth do you think i will need if i want a computer that will last me, lets say 2 years?

if you play on high res with maxed out graphics a 2 year build (with no upgrades) will be expensive you would have to buy the best of everything and by the 2 years mark it would be playing mid level graphics, of course this could change, there could be a massive graphics growth and in 6 months no current card can run things or the opposite could happen, but at the current time it would be expensive

another common practice is to get the mid-high range now for 600-700 and then in a year to 6 months spend another 400-700 and by the time you do this in the same 2 year span, you will have a better computer than the expensive one you bought 2 years ago.

if that makes any sense...

yeah it does, so going off what you are saying, if i buy a mid now then always be looking for upgrades, that is the best way to go?
